About Moncton Anti-Fracking

Moncton Anti-Fracking is a group dedicated to stopping shale extraction (“fracking”) in New Brunswick.

We aim to:

Participate in all rallies, protests and other actions against fracking companies in New Brunswick;

Educate residents in the greater Moncton area of the dangers of fracking;

Facilitate residents in the area to safely attend protest events through civil disobedience training, communications and transportation.

The province’s rush into the rash adventure of fracking puts our environment, our food supply and our health at risk. We encourage all people to resist. You can oppose fracking in many ways that do not put you at any risk to your safety. You can attend protests without breaking any laws. Moncton Anti-Fracking supports all peaceful means of protesting fracking.

Since Wednesday, June 5, there have been daily protests in Kent County against the seismic survey testing on highway 126. This could continue all summer and we would like to have a Moncton contingent at every one of these if possible.

Exercise the ultimate right of direct democracy, it is an experience you will never forget. If you are interested in joining the resistance, email us at monctonantifracking@gmail.com.

Please donate to Moncton Anti-Fracking so we can continue to oppose fracking and promote a clean environment for New Brunswick.

  1. I'm NOT against it!! WE are going bankrupt--may as well say "we are bankrupt"!! Our province has gone deep into debt for 5 REVERSIBLE reasons. Two of them easily could be reversed. One of them is VERY easily erased-1/ STOP buying foreign cars --thus sending our hard earned money over to a bunch of foreigners --most of who hate our guts & would take over our country IF they could get away with it! (Remember the last 2 wars? Our veterans would have a fit to see people buying German & Jap cars while our auto workers are suffering! 2/ STOP government waste 3/ Do away with bi-lingualism or else have translation in every language for EVERY foreigner who is residing in Canada(crazy isn't it)? 4/ Do away with ALL drive-throughs--which waste millions of dollars of gas each year!!! 5/STOP monies going to Indian reservations where the big chiefs & councils get most of the money --which they spend on drugs, alcohol, & cigarettes anyway & don't need minerals to support their communities--BUT the government does!! hemidart@nb.sympatico.ca ps. Think of the big change if the 10 commandments were made mandatory------what a savings on murders, adulteries, suicides, bullying of all types, shootings, drunkeness, drug addicts, overloaded jails, etc---BILLIONS COULD BE SAVED IF people turned back to God of the Bible!!!!!!!!!!!!Strange--they STILL use it in the courts--go figure. That's because there is NO other absolute.

  3. As a native Monctonian, I need to get a few things off my chest...

    I really wish this Anti-Fracking mentality of NB would go away. I would love to come back to NB, but unfortunately protesting has stifled the energy industry. I don't think you guys realize that "fracking jobs" are just a drop in the bucket as to how many jobs will actually be created. Pipeline construction, oil hauling, water hauling, catering services, salesmen in all support industries, down-hole logging, perforating, seismic testing, pipe hauling, gas testing/flaring, drafting, scaffolding, surveying, house construction, road maintenance, millwrights, welders, heavy equipment operating, instrumentation, heavy duty mechanics, towing services, gravel hauling, cementing, consulting services, and yes, FRACKING JOBS.

    I left Moncton in 2011 when I was laid off the same week my first child was born. I tried finding other work, but couldn't find anything paying a living wage. Currently I have 3 kids in Alberta who are going to grow up without knowing their grandparents or aunts and uncles or cousins because NB can't stop throwing hissy fits every time someone sticks a shovel in the ground.

    Your province is DYING and you guys need to bring in new industry or 10 years from now, the only jobs left will be minimum wage ones. You are losing your younger generation to MUCH better paying jobs in other provinces. Bring in an oil industry will have spinoff effects you probably can't imagine. Kids flipping burgers could be learning a trade instead.

    Worrying about fracking in NB is unfounded. You guys are sitting on a MILE OF SOLID ROCK above your reserves. The capstone thickness of your reserves is MUCH thicker than most other areas. Any wells drilled will be under intense scrutiny for leaks. Casing leaks can be fixed fairly easily with a cement squeeze.

    In another 25 years, the need for oil will be severely reduced with progress in technology. Solar is getting better. Thorium reactors are coming. Battery technology is improving quickly. The opportunity to develop your oilfield has a deadline.

    Do you really think the Justin Borques of this world just randomly appear? Do you think he would have done what he did if he had a decent job with benefits that would have diagnosed his mental affliction? Would he have done it if he had family who loved him, a decent vehicle, spare money to go on a vacation once in a while, a decent house, paid vacations? He did what he did because he is part of a disposable generation with no hope, no dignity, no future and nothing to lose.

    Or maybe I am delusional into thinking that NB wants to stop playing lotto 10/42 and get its shit together and provide a better life for the younger generation.

    While you chew on that, I'll be heading back to work at my $130,000/year job in Alberta so that I may one day be able to afford to send my kids to hockey, summer camp, university or the dentist.
